Troubleshooting Tips: Removing and Installing your LG Fridge Filter

REMOVING YOUR OLD FILTER

One common issue our customers face when replacing their LG fridge filter is removing the old filter from the housing. Whilst most LG fridges come with an auto shut-off for the water when you remove the filter, it can be easier to isolate the water to the fridge first and then activate the dispenser. This helps to relieve any pressure or air lock that may be making it difficult to remove.

If this hasn’t worked, another option to try is removing the top shelf from the refrigerator to give you some more space. This is specifically helpful when installing the 5231JA2002A-2 filter, 5231JA2002A filter, and the EFF-6005A filter. Once you have unlocked the filter by turning it to the left, try gently rocking it sideways whilst pulling the filter down. If you still can’t get the filter free, try applying a little extra force.

INSTALLING YOUR NEW FILTER

When installing your filter, keep in mind there can be small tolerance differences in the locking mechanism from filter to filter. This means that some filters will require more force than others to install. When installing a new filter, always remember to push the filter upwards before turning it to the right (clockwise). Once it starts to turn, simply apply more force and keep turning until you feel and here the filter lock into position.

FILTER VARIATIONS

LG fridge filter variations come from different factories, with different machinery and tooling. All of these variations can mean that some filters may not go in as easily at first. This applies to both branded and compatible filters. Although there may be some slight differences, there is no need to be concerned if the shape of the filter or the lugs vary from filter to filter. This can happen from one production to the next when a manufacturer updates tooling or changes their factory.
