Why is the change filter light still on even though I changed my filter?

With most fridges these days having a light to tell you when it’s time to change your filter, we often get the question as to why the light is still on even though the filter has been replaced. Fantastic question!

The light on the fridge is not actually connected to the filter; it works on a 6-month time frame; so when you change the filter, the light may remain on. Why 6 months? Once you have changed your filter, check your fridge user manual to see how to manually reset the filter light (if you don’t have your manual anymore, you can generally find it on the manufacturer’s website). Some fridges have a dedicated button to press that will reset the filter, while others may require you to press and/or hold a certain button/s to reset the light. Some fridges have an indicator that changes colour depending on how far through your filter you are. For example, the light will be green when the filter is new, go to orange to indicate it’s time to order your filter, then red to indicate the time to change it. On other fridges the light will just appear when the cartridge is due for a change.

 

 

On the one hand, the indicator light is very handy if we are remembering to do the manual reset each time. However, it can also cause some confusion. Bearing in mind that the light isn’t connected to the filter – it can reset itself if you do have any interruptions to the power to the fridge. We need to be mindful that the 6-month time may reset if the fridge loses power.
