Why Should I Change the Filter Tubing in my Refrigerator?

One of the most commonly asked questions of our team here is “how often should I change my water filter”? But what other components directly impact the quality and performance of your fridge’s water filtration system besides changing the filter?  It is a great question to an important part of regular maintenance that is often overlooked by most filter users.

An ever-increasing number of homes across Australia today are utilising some form of Water filtration device within their refrigerator for peace of mind when dispensing ice or chilled water. Regular water filter changes are an integral part of the filter system’s overall ability to enhance the taste of your water / Ice and protect you and your family. However, if you’re not replacing the inlet and outlet Poly tubing every 3 years, they may not be allowing the filter to do its job effectively. 

To explain this better, let’s talk about what happens to the Poly Tubing as it gets older. Water - which often contains particulate material such as sand, dirt, and rust - passes into the tubing before the filter, it begins to work like an abrasive, slowly wearing away at the smoothness of the extruded tube. These worn areas become perfect locations for particulate matter and bacteria to reside as they are now able to hide away from the path of the water’s flow in these small crevices. These unwanted contaminants can infiltrate the filtration device and cause it to expire early or limit the filters ability to perform effectively. Avoiding regular maintenance and replacement of your poly tubing can also increase the risk of the hose to fail, potentially leading to flooding.
